About Me

Here follows a wee bit about what is going on here.....

About me...

Ok, my name is Tarquin Rees and I am a postgraduate student at Edinburgh University writing a Phd thesis on the Sufi movement the Malamatiyya and their relationship to Eastern Christianity and the Greek school of the Cynics.

Currently living in Barcelona, Spain (when not in Edinburgh) and attempting to pay for my ongoing studies by a spot of Web Design and by dealing in antique Tribal Rugs and Islamic art.

In between fanatically following the Barcelona football and Wales Rugby teams there may well be vain attempts to relax by playing Go, collecting ancient magical manuscripts and solving cryptographic puzzles. I am currently working on a great unfinished novel.

About this blog...

This blog is essentially a reflection of my personal preoccupations as outlined above. The name ‘Anulios’ comes from George Gurdjieff’s magnum opus Beelzebub’s Tales to his Grandson or First Series of writings ‘All and Everything’. In the first book it is the name for a fragment of the Earth which split off and became the moon and which thenceforth exerted an influence on human beings. Also known as ‘Kimespai’, it has the general meaning of ‘never allowing one to sleep in peace’.

Expect wiseacring about God, Islam and magic(k) as well as mysticism of all kinds and Barcelona/Wales sporting exploits as well as any Fortean phenomena should they come my way. There is also a vague possibility I will post some of my literary efforts and the odd restaurant review.
