1Q84 Limited Edition of 111 copies
This is the Harvill UK Limited Edition of Haruki Murakami's latest blockbuster 1Q84 trilogy - a signed and numbered edition, it is housed in a perspex case and numbered cardboard container and is limited to exactly 111 copies. The edition was sold out immediately on release being highly over-subscribed. This copy is number 58 and is in new, unopened perfect condition.
All three books are contained in a perspex box which is placed within an original transport box itself printed with the title and number of the issue.
The set is SIGNED and stamped by the author on the rear cover of the 3rd volume which also states the number of the issue. A certificate of authenticity is included.
The perspex container has not been opened - the package has only been removed from the box for photographing. Hence some of the photos here are stock ones although the photos of the box and books in their perspex box and net cover are of the actual book.
This is perhaps the rarest Murakami after the elusive Kat Ran "Sleep" and is highly sought after.
About the edition
The front and back covers are printed on Somerset, a 10 per cent cotton archival paper, using a Swiss-made 1963 Gietz Art Platen hand-fed letterpress. The limited edition is a collaboration between Simon Rhodes, Kristen Harrison at The Curved House and designer Stefanie Posavec. Text design is by Jim Smith and the covers are printed by Justin Knopp at Typoretum in the United Kingdom. All text pages are printed and bound by Graphicom, Verona and the finished edition was published by Harvill Secker in 2011 ISBN 9781846554902.
The book is a work of art in itself and is predominantly handmade with the front and back covers of each book printed by letterpress (by artist Justin Knopp) and then bound onto the book blocks. The three edges of each book were hand-coloured before the books were placed into a slipcase, numbered and finally wrapped and sewn into a cloth covering.
The book is complete with a numbered certificate of authenticity carrying the Harvill Secker limited edition seal and hand-signed by Murakami. Each set of books is signed with a slight variation depending on where the signature is situated or what pen has been used by the author. As a result of this multi-layered process of hand production, every single one of the 111 sets has its own unique characteristics. No two sets are the same, making this a truly special limited edition artist's book.
